A Webley Hurricane .22 air pistol with a pleasing provenance — purchased new from Fultons of Bisley close to 50 years ago, where it has remained in single ownership since.
The Hurricane was introduced by Webley and Scott in 1963 as a development of the earlier Premier, sharing its single-stroke break-barrel cocking action but with a revised, more angular grip frame and an integral rear sight adjustable for both windage and elevation. Chambered here in .22, it was produced at Webley's Birmingham factory and became one of the most recognisable British air pistols of the post-war era, widely used for target shooting and small pest control at close range. The design remained in production until the early 1990s, a testament to its reliability and the quality of its manufacture.
Fultons of Bisley is one of the most historically significant gunsmith retailers in the country, having supplied target shooters and competitors at the National Shooting Centre since the late nineteenth century. Purchase from Fultons places this pistol firmly within the British target shooting community of the mid-to-late 1970s.
Condition is described as fair throughout, honest for a pistol of this age that has clearly seen regular use. For a collector or enthusiast with an appreciation for classic British air pistols and their history, this is a characterful example a very good retail provenance.
This example is firing at 60 fps with JSB exact pellets so this would make a great project for someone or just have as a nostalgic piece.
